Our knowledge is now increased by the book written by Dvo\u0159\u00e1k Society member Sylva \u0160imsov\u00e1 about Anthony (Anton\u00edn) Kammel, 1730\u20131784. The title of the book is \u201cTraces in the Sand\u201d\u2009\u2013\u2009The Story of Anthony Kammel in 18th Century Britain.<br>To launch the book, the Dvo\u0159\u00e1k Society (as publisher) arranged an event on 12 July in Shugborough, Staffordshire, with live music composed by Kammel.<\/p>\n<\/div>\n\n\n\n<div class=\"wp-block-column is-layout-flow wp-block-column-is-layout-flow\" style=\"flex-basis:66.66%\">\n<p class=\"has-normal-font-size wp-block-paragraph\">On Saturday 12 July 2014, the Dvo\u0159\u00e1k Society held an event at the historic Shugborough Estate in Staffordshire, with talks and examples of Kammel\u2019s music performed live by a quartet. Shugborough was the family seat of one of Kammel\u2019s patrons (the Anson family) <br><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" width=\"450\" height=\"299\" class=\"wp-image-944\" style=\"width: 450px;\" src=\"https:\/\/www.dvorak-society.org\/wp-content\/uploads\/2020\/07\/Shugborough_1829.jpg\" alt=\"\" srcset=\"https:\/\/www.dvorak-society.org\/wp-content\/uploads\/2020\/07\/Shugborough_1829.jpg 549w, https:\/\/www.dvorak-society.org\/wp-content\/uploads\/2020\/07\/Shugborough_1829-300x199.jpg 300w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 450px) 100vw, 450px\" \/><br>Starting at 2pm in the saloon of the main house there were talks on the life of Kammel in respect of the Anson family given by local historian Andrew Baker and composer Karel Janovick\u00fd, the husband of the book\u2019s author Sylva \u0160imsov\u00e1. Accompanying the talks were live performances of two of Kammel\u2019s String Quartets played by the Heron Quartet. The launch took place in the house and was open to National Trust visitors and Dvo\u0159\u00e1k Society members alike.<br>Shugborough is a working historic estate featuring a fine Georgian mansion working servants\u2019 quarters, farm with costumed servants and walled gardens. Home to The Earls of Lichfield, Shugborough is set in 900 acres of Grade I listed parkland.
