In spite of the huge difference in their ages\u2009\u2014\u2009the composer was 63 years old and she only 26\u2009\u2014\u2009he began writing to her regularly after the holiday. Although she was uninterested in Jan\u00e1\u010dek\u2019s music and replied only spasmodically to his letters, she became the inspiration for many of the masterpieces produced by him in that extraordinary late outburst of creativity, at a time of life when many creative figures have lapsed into routine. That is why his marvellous&nbsp;<em>Second String Quartet<\/em>&nbsp;bears the title&nbsp;<em>Intimate Letters (Listy d\u016fv\u011bn\u00e9)<\/em>.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Dvo\u0159\u00e1k Society member&nbsp;<strong>John Tyrrell<\/strong>, an internationally acclaimed expert on Jan\u00e1\u010dek, has edited and translated a comprehensive selection of these letters. This book is an invaluable companion for anyone interested in Jan\u00e1\u010dek\u2019s creative psyche.
